5 autumn highlights
1. Explore a Viennese neighborhood
The neighborhoods in Vienna are called Grätzel. Every Grätzel has a very unique atmosphere and its own particular flair. Are you familiar with the Margaretenviertel in the 5th district? This quarter, shaped by contrasts, is perfect for a city stroll. Urban and creative vibrancy meets nostalgic Viennese flair here – with plenty of small shops and inviting local spots.
2. Discover the works of Johann Strauss through play
All of Vienna has caught the Strauss fever. In 2025 the city is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Waltz King, Johann Strauss. To mark the occasion, we have developed a Strauss Waltz Challenge for our ivie app. Go on a digital scavenger hunt through Vienna with ivie, including a Johann Strauss quiz and an augmented reality challenge at the Strauss monument in the Stadtpark. You have certainly never seen the Waltz King like this before.
3. Discover Viennese wine

Vienna’s vineyards are especially idyllic in autumn. The sun bathes everything in golden light, the grapes are ripe for harvest, the leaves slowly change color and everywhere the new vintage is being celebrated. A walk through Vienna’s vineyards lets you experience all of this – and also offers breathtaking views of the city. Numerous Buschenschank wine taverns and heurige along the way invite you to stop off for a glass of Viennese wine and local culinary specialties. If you’re looking for insider tips, you should follow the recommendations of star chef Lukas Mraz. His favorite spots are featured in the video “Wine not Vienna.”
4. Dive into Vienna’s autumn art scene
Autumn is the perfect time to visit museums and galleries. This year, autumn in Vienna is all about photography: starting October 3, the Foto Wien festival will transform the whole city into a vibrant platform for photography, with more than 100 program partners. Vienna is also gaining a dedicated new exhibition space for photography in the form of the Foto Arsenal Wien. A must-see!
5. Round off the day with Viennese cuisine
When it gets colder and darker outside, it’s time once again for Viennese cuisine. Viennese cuisine is pure soul food, best enjoyed in a typical Viennese bistro. A particularly charming example of a bistro is the Zum Roten Bären. Every dish on the menu is a delight – from Wiener Schnitzel to crispy fried oyster mushrooms.
